Leaders - Are you communicating?

While much is known about effective employee communication from both research and case studies, few companies are good at it.

For more than two decades I have been encouraging leaders to improve their face-to-face communication. Skill building in both listening and presentations have been essential parts of my leadership development programs.

Face-to-face communication, especially listening, builds trust. Morale improves when employees have trust in their leaders, which leads to productivity increases and bigger profits. It seems clear that employee communication should rank among the highest priorities of any organization.

Yet, the fact is that only lip service is given to this important topic.

Want to know how to make communication more strateigc and more effective in your organization?

One way is to give employees information the way they most want to receive it - directly from their supervisors face-to-face. This means supervisors must be well informed and trained to be more effective at sharing information.

You can get lots more information about employee communication and six tips to improve internal communication in an article I wrote for the Journal of Employee Communication Management.
