Training topics

Why is it that so much training gets so little results? It is because training without coaching is just entertainment! I recommend to clients that training include follow up coaching or dialogue sessions.

Training can provide return on investment (ROI) when coaching is involved. Bottom-line results can include lower costs, higher productivity, better quality, higher morale and better satisfaction of customers. Metrics like turnover, productivity and rate of return are useful to measure training ROI.

Aligning training with business goals is becoming a priority for more organizations each year. Here are some facts about the value of training:

  1. Firms that invest $1,500 per employee in training compared with those that spend $125 experience an average of 24 percent higher gross profit margins and 218 percent higher revenue per employee (Source: Laurie J. Bassi et al., "Profiting From Learning: Do Firms' Investments in Education and Training Pay Off?" American Society for Training and Development, 2000)
  2. The Cheesecake Factory, one of the most successful restaurant chains in the nation, spends about $2,000 per employee for training each year and reaps sales of $1,000 per square foot—more than twice the industry average

BETTER LISTENING GETS BETTER RESULTS

Discover the art and skill of not only hearing, but also understanding the feelings of others and the content of their messages. Find out about the magic of feedback in building trust. Researchers have identified listening as the most used form of communication yet listening is the least taught of the communication skills. Surveys have asked workers to describe the characteristics of a good boss. They typically say a good boss listens to them. This full-day workshop helps people understand how their normal responses tend to poison relationships at work and at home - and how to develop new responses.

Program Content:

  • Four keys that open the door to listening
  • How to "tune in" to the feelings of others
  • What to do to encourage others to talk
  • The magic of feedback

It is well known that people can manage conflicts when they know specific coping skills. This program teaches people how to communicate to achieve a positive resolution to stressful situations. MAXIMIZE FACE-TO-FACE TO BUILD SUPPORT

Gain insights about how to change attitudes and behaviors using the magic of relationship building and word-of-mouth communication to build support for organizations. Decades of behavioral science research show that about 10 percent of a group has a major impact on the opinions of others. Learn to harness the power of that 10 percent by creating a program of two-way, face-to-face communication designed to influence key leaders one at a time and build long-term relationships. Building trust and gaining the support of a group is accomplished by thorough planning, using individual volunteers as ambassadors to build relationships one-on-one with 5-10 opinion leaders, and ongoing support and direction for ambassadors.

Program Vision: Increase organization or community understanding and support inexpensively

Participants will learn:

  • To make personal communication an important strategy for organization success
  • Diffusion process: a 60-year-old behavioral science idea unknown to leaders
  • An action plan for building organization or community support using word-of-mouth
  • How to use leaders, staff and volunteers as ambassadors for the organization

TEAM-BUILDING

Interpersonal communication skills are essential for improving teamwork. This team-building workshop combines training in listening, conflict resolution, win-win negotiating, understanding diversity and problem solving to help people work together better. The workshop is customized to fits the needs of an organization.

Dialogue about what has been learned is an important part of the training follow-up. Training is conducted in 2-3 hour segments where people learn a basic skill. Then they use the new skill in the workplace for 2-3 weeks before talking about it with the rest of the group in a dialogue session. Additional reinforcement training is available if needed. Don’t forget: Training without coaching and reinforcement is just entertainment.

Program Vision: Increase productivity and reduce stress, absenteeism and related health problems

Participants will learn:

  • Listening and problem-solving skills
  • To appreciate the diversity of team members and value their differences
  • How to respond to conflict and manage it better
