Thank you for the excellent presentation you gave to the teacher aides in our school system. The entire day was great, thanks to the careful preparation you did in tailoring the inservice to the particular needs and concerns of the audience. Participants felt valued, they had lots of fun, and they left with practical suggestions and worthwhile materials which they could apply the minute they walked out the door into the multiple roles of their lives - as parent, spouse, friend, co-worker, teacher aide and community member. With 138 paraprofessionals in a large, awkwardly-shaped dining room, to keep them actively engaged in relevant learning was quite a feat. But you did it! You walked around the room, joking with the audience, sharing personal stories and giving them real things to do. Your workshop is especially important for teacher aides because of the vital role they play in the classrooms. Unlike teachers, almost all of their interactions with students are subtle and spontaneous. If those who heard your presentation put even a few of your ideas into practice in their daily interactions with children, self-esteem would increase, angry interactions would decrease, and the positive climate for learning and growing would improve.
