TRAINING PHILOSOPHY
Training without coaching is just entertainment.
Training with follow up coaching improves ROI.
Business Wire (July 31, 2001) reported: "Xerox
Corporation carried out several studies of coaching. They
determined that in the absence of follow-up coaching to their
training classes, 87 percent of the skills change brought about by
the program was lost."
A 1997 study in a public agency described in
Public Personnel
Management showed that productivity increased an average of 88
percent when coaching was combined with training, compared to a 22
percent improvement from training alone.
Fortune magazine in 2001 reported: "Asked for a
conservative estimate for the monetary payoff from the coaching
they got, these managers described an average return of more than
$100,000, or about six times what the coaching had cost their
companies."
The bottom line: You can vastly improve the results of
your training investment when you add three months of coaching
to reinforce the learning and ensure that the new skills learned
will actually be used in the workplace.
